On Saturday, October 25, the Kootenai County Democrats held our Annual Community Food and Supply Drive, supporting several vital local organizations: the 3rd Ave Marketplace in Post Falls, the Community Action Partnership in Coeur d’Alene, our Head Start programs, and the Coeur d’Alene School District.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of our neighbors and volunteers, we collected nearly $9,000 in goods and financial contributions! Your kindness made a real impact—and we’re deeply grateful to everyone who pitched in. We truly couldn’t have done it without you.
This year’s drive was especially meaningful given the growing needs in our community. Kootenai County’s poverty rate stands at approximately 10%, with children under 18 experiencing poverty at a higher rate of 14%. These families face daily struggles that are compounded by rising housing costs and limited access to affordable childcare and transportation.
By coming together for this drive, we helped stock shelves, fill backpacks, and offer hope to families facing tough times. Every can of food, every hygiene item, and every dollar donated brings relief and dignity to someone in need.
Let’s keep the momentum going. Whether through future drives, volunteering, or advocacy, we all have a role to play in building a more compassionate and resilient Kootenai County.
