The Kootenai County Commissioners will hold a public meeting on March 28, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at the Schuler Auditorium at NIC in order to address the potential repeal of Resolution 522, the “building code opt-out” resolution. The Kootenai County Democratic Central Committee (KCDCC) calls on the current Kootenai County Commissioners to restore standard building practices to Kootenai County.

The KCDCC passed a resolution on July 9, 2018 calling for the passing of an ordinance that would update the construction codes adopted by the State of Idaho and all other Idaho counties, because that was the desire of a majority of Kootenai County residents expressed in multiple public hearings. Like local citizens in the construction, insurance, and financing industries, the KCDCC recognizes that “building code opt-out” Resolution 522: 1) disregards the construction codes adopted by the State of Idaho, 2) negatively affects insurance rates and financing opportunities available to residents, and 3) ignores the economic benefits proper building codes provide to local industries.

The KCDCC continues to support the repeal of Resolution 522 and the adoption of current construction codes for the benefit of Kootenai County’s residents and economy.
