In November, KC Dems Community Outreach volunteers and about 1000 other folks enjoyed the truly warming (for heart and stomach!) soup contest event put on by St. Vincent de Paul. Held this year for the first time at the Silver Lake Mall, the event raises money to help the homeless in our community. Attendees sampled over forty-five delicious soups and stopped by the KC Dems booth for tasty bread and butter to enjoy with their soup selections. Many of our own KC Dem friends stopped by the booth to encourage us. Many, many others thanked us for being such a good sponsor—and for supplying so many different artisan breads.
Because of the incredible generosity of KC Dems, we supplied over 50 loaves of delicious bread, rolls, and butter for the event that saw over 1000 attendees. Not only were over 1000 people in attendance but proceeds for St. Vincent’s homeless programs topped $15,000!
Our participation affords so much positive KC Dem exposure in the community and clearly demonstrates our Democratic values. Many of the scrumptious breads were truly a labor of love as many were home-baked by our donors! Leftover bread and butter (not much!) were donated to St. Vincent’s to use in their kitchens and warming shelters. St. Vincent’s really appreciated our support and donations.
A BIG and sincere THANK YOU to all who participated in any way! Volunteers who manned the booth at the event were Cathy and Laurie Kraus, Jan Studer, Karla Winkleman, Lisa Scaff and Savannagh Kacey.
