Why We Protest:
We uphold Idaho’s traditional values, which include respect for democracy, the Constitution, and the rule of law. We are exercising our First Amendment right to freedom of speech to defend the democracy that the men and women of our armed forces fought and died to protect.
Three Branches of Government:
We want to remind our lawmakers that there are three branches of government and that Republicans in the House and Senate—including Senators Risch and Crapo and Representatives Fulcher and Simpson—are not fulfilling their responsibility to govern through the legislative process. GOP legislators are sitting idly by while the president oversteps his authority through executive action. As Elon Musk carelessly wields a chainsaw that threatens essential government programs, senior citizens worry about losing their hard-earned Social Security benefits, and our respected veterans fear a loss of vital services provided by the Veterans Administration.
What We Have to Lose:
Trump and MAGA Republicans have empowered a billionaire born in South Africa who does not understand or embody American values. Elon Musk, an unelected co-president, lacks experience in government and is draining our treasury, undermining the Constitution, and siphoning off our tax dollars to provide billionaires with enormous tax breaks.
Government is NOT a Business:
The American government should never be treated like a business or a real estate transaction. Our government was established to serve the American people. We have no interest in acquiring Greenland or the Panama Canal, and we disapprove of disrespecting our good neighbors in Canada by suggesting they give up their sovereignty. The United States of America should not be treated like one of Donald Trump’s many failed business ventures. Additionally, Trump’s tariffs destroy our economy and damage relationships with allied nations and important trading partners.
No Kings:
Donald Trump is not a king, and we do not respect authoritarianism. We formed this great country and created our democratic system of government to escape despotism. We do not accept Trump’s bypass of our legislative branch and his attempt to run our government through flimsy and unconstitutional executive orders.
We Support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:
Our nation’s greatest strength is its diversity. Diversity in society is essential because it fosters innovation, promotes understanding, strengthens communities, increases productivity, leads to better decision-making, and enhances cultural appreciation.
Unlawful and Undemocratic Actions:
Trump’s unlawful actions and his association with a fascist billionaire have created an unprecedented crisis in our country, threatening the very foundation of our democracy. We will not stand by while Trump dismantles our government. Americans across the nation are standing up to defend democracy.
