KC Dem Club–via Zoom: Sam Wolkenhauser, North Idaho Regional Labor Economist

This week our guest speaker is Sam Wolkenhauser. He is the North Idaho Regional Labor Economist for the Idaho Department of Labor. He will help us breakdown the impacts to our economy brought on by the actions taken to address COVID-19. For example, the state’s unemployment rate went from record lows to record highs during the shutdown. So, can we expect unemployment to decrease as the economy opens back up? Also, what happens if coronavirus resurges again? Can Idaho sustain itself?

Sam has presented to us before and he is always informative and prepared with up to date information. Although his focus is on North Idaho, his forecasting model works for the whole state. He is an excellent speaker who has a way of giving both facts and some assurance for the future. So, join the discussion and bring your own questions to ask.

Sam Wolkenhauer joined the Idaho Department of Labor in June 2015.  He holds bachelor’s degrees in mathematics and economics from Eastern Washington University. “I came to Labor fresh out of school,” Sam tells us.

If you missed last Friday’s meeting with Jeff Voeller of the Coeur d’Alene School District, it was phenomenal. It is amazing what the School District staff and teachers are doing. We owe them a debt of thanks.
