KCDem Club: Dan Gookin–East Sherman Avenue URD

This Friday, our guest speaker is Coeur d’Alene City Council Member Dan Gookin. Dan is completing his second term on the City Council. His talk will cover the history and current status of the East Sherman Avenue Urban Renewal District revitalization project. The city hopes to implement some changes to increase business activity and create a more cohesive and prosperous climate along the Eastern gateway to Coeur d’Alene.

Anyone who drives down East Sherman Avenue will understand the city’s concern that this area of town has not kept up with the robust growth and development of other commercial districts. The city government has made some limited improvements including changes to parking orientation, roadway width, sidewalks and landscaping between 16th and 17th Streets. If you haven’t been down East Sherman in awhile, drive by and check it out before our Friday meeting. Plan to share your ideas and suggestions with Dan. He is here to listen and will share your feedback with the council.

Dan Gookin is nearing the end of his second term on the Coeur d’Alene City Council. He is an outspoken advocate for transparency in government and a fiscal conservative. As a publish author, Dan has written over 160 titles on computers and technology. He is an online instructor. His latest book, due out in August, is Running for Local Office For Dummies. He has been a county resident for 26 years.and moved into the City in 2002.
