KC Dem Club On-line: Kiki Miller, Cd’A City Council–Growth in Ko Co

According to 2020 Census data, Idaho’s urban counties accounted for much of the state’s rapid population growth. For example, Kootenai County grew 23.7 percent. Only Ada County, which grew 26.1 percent, exceeded our areas stunning increase in population. (No surprise: Census numbers show Idaho growth concentrated in a few areas – Idaho Reports (idahoptv.org). To get a handle on the implications of our area’s rising population and its impacts, the Democratic Club welcomes Kiki Miller. Kiki is a Coeur d’Alene City Council Member. More importantly, she is a key organizer of the Regional Housing and Growth Issues Partnership (RHGIP). The RHGIP is a collaborative effort by area municipalities and jurisdictions to assess and oversee our area’s growth.

One of the RHGIP’s initial challenges is managing perceptions and getting accurate information to the public. Another is ensuring the public has a voice in the planning process. Effective growth management helps communities mitigate the impact of unrestrained development. Come listen to council member Miller discuss the goals of the RHGIP and what they hope to achieve.

We distribute a Zoom link for our club meeting on the Thursday prior to the meeting date. To request the link or assistance getting connected, contact Phil at pjwmia@aol.com.
