Jim’s working life centers on public service. He started his career as a teacher and school administrator. He also represented District 5 as an Idaho State Senator for two terms. In addition, he has been Mayor of Post Falls, as well as a member and president of the Post Falls City Council. He has also served on various state and local boards including the Vice President of the Idaho State Board of Education, Chairman of the Idaho Charter School Commission, and President of the North Idaho Crisis Center Board. This combined experience was instrumental in helping him make the decision to run for mayor of Coeur d’Alene. “Really, public service is a part of me,” he told The Press. “I want to continue to work for my community. Retirement just doesn’t work for me.”
According to the CDA Press, the Coeur d’Alene city employee unions and associations unanimously declared their support for Jim Hammond, Both organizations spoke of Hammond’s experience, knowledge, and strong leadership skills as the reasons they support him as the next leader of Coeur d’Alene.
