The 13th Amendment: Racism and Incarceration by Dr. Jamison Lee was part of a lecture series presented in August by North Idaho College. A few of our Democratic Club members saw it then and suggested we should present it to the Democratic Club. Dr. Lee has agreed to attend our meeting this Friday, Sep. 18th at noon Online. A video of his presentation will be shown. Afterwards Dr. Lee will join for a question and answer session. This might be the most informative presentation of the year. We all know the 13th Amendment to our constitution abolished Slavery.
The Thirteenth Amendment (Amendment XIII) to the United States Constitution abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime. The amendment was passed by Congress on January 31, 1865, and ratified by the required 27 of the then 36 states on December 6, 1865 and proclaimed on December 18.
It may have abolished slavery but it may have given racism a growth spurt that continues today. Be at the Democratic Club Friday and listen to Dr. Jamison Lee with a Q & A to follow.
