The Democratic Club welcomes Michael Pereira. He is a candidate running for the Coeur d’Alene City Council. Michael is a fiscal conservative with a passion for people. He hopes to provide a change to the city council. He is seeking to unseat incumbent council member Dan Gookin. Gookin has served on the council for 8 years and is seeking reelection.
Michael considers the No. 1 issue facing the community to be getting a handle on rapid growth. Our increasing population is straining infrastructure and services. “The comprehensive plan update process offers an excellent time to address these issues,” he said. “We’ve experienced so much growth in recent years and we’re behind the curve. Building relationships, having common sense to handling issues facing the city, and working together are keys to getting things accomplished and moving forward.”
Pereira is 41. His experience includes involvement with several community organizations and their boards. These organizations are the City’s Design Review Commission, Coeur d’Alene Area Chamber of Commerce, Impact Club, Leadership Coeur d’Alene, the Coeur Group, CDA 2030, and Idaho Drug-Free Youth. He is a risk-assessment analyst for Umpqua Bank. Pereira’ 20 year work history includes consulting, construction, engineering, and banking. In addition, he has been a small business owner. Michael is a graduate of Lake City High School and the University of Idaho. He relocated to Coeur d’Alene in 1992. His wife, Jenn Pereira, is a lifetime resident of North Idaho. Together, they have four children.
He says, “We are at a critical juncture in our community with growth and changes and a lot of strategic decisions and plans that need to be made that will affect our community well into the future.”
So, come to the Iron Horse Bar & Grill this Friday and listen to Michael Pereira explain why he wants to serve on the Couer d’Alene City Council.
