KC Dem Club: Capt Kim Edmondson, Candidate for Sheriff

Kootenai County Sheriff Candidate

Kootenai County Sheriff, Ben Wolfinger, is retiring. He has been the Kootenai County Sheriff since January, 2013. As a result of his announced retirement, candidates are coming forward to fill this vacancy. The new sheriff will be elected in November 2020. Given the vital nature of this county position, the Democratic Club invited the candidates to speak to us and present their ideas. These candidate presentations are your opportunity to become informed about county law enforcement and who is vying for the opportunity to lead this organization. As you know, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s department impacts our lives whether we reside in town or out in the country. Therefore, who becomes our Sheriff will matter. The first candidate to visit the club is Captain Kim Edmondson.

Captain Edmondson is a 30 year resident of Kootenai County and her husband Andy is a native son. She started working for the Sheriff’s Office in 1992. Her first position was as a Detention Deputy in the county jail. Since then, she served as a Jail Training Officer, Instructor, Sergeant, Administrative Sergeant, Support Services Commander, and Jail Bureau Commander. In addition, she has also worked in Patrol, serving as the Detective Division Commander as well as Public Information Officer.

In her role as captain, she currently acts as the Investigations and Professional Standards Division Commander. She also serves as the Deputy Director of Kootenai County’s Office of Emergency Management. In addition, she is an Adjunct Professor at North Idaho College where she teaches Introduction to Criminal Justice. Kim holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University and is actively involved in our community.

When she’s not working, Kim enjoys being a grandmother and spending time with her family on their ranch near Hayden where they ride horses and raise cattle.

This Friday and those through August will help us to be informed voters. Each Friday at noon the Democratic Club meets at the Iron Horse, 407 Sherman Ave., Coeur d’Alene. Please try to attend.
