Honoring Military Vets
This Friday, the Democratic Club will celebrate our nation’s veterans. According to the US Department of Veteran’s Affairs, the United States has a veteran population of roughly 20 million. Veteran’s Day is our opportunity to recognize and honor their sacrifice. As a form of tribute, our celebration will feature stories, engaging talk and a short video by Film Alliance Northwest. If possible, we invite Club members to bring a vet with them. In addition, veterans are encouraged to share their stories with us. We will also have a short presentation by Larry Telles and Steve Wyttree from Film Alliance Northwest. They will talk about the Veteran’s Project; a program they are working on to honor local veterans. Join us as we pay tribute to our men and women veterans at the Iron Horse Bar and Grill. Cake will be provided.
About Veteran’s Day
For 98 years, Americans have set aside November 11 to honor those who served our country in uniform. Originally named Armistice Day, the US Congress renamed the holiday Veterans Day in 1945. The year 2017 is the 99th year of commemoration of Veteran’s Day. In recognition of the sacrifice of our military veterans and their families, the Department of Veteran’s Affairs has designated the month of November as Veterans and Military Families month.
