Signature Summer Arts Celebration
2018 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Art on the Green in Coeur d’Alene. This signature summer arts celebration takes place on the beautiful campus of North Idaho College. Situated on the north shore of Lake Coeur d’Alene, the annual event attracts over 50,000 people each year. In honor of this milestone, the Democratic Club welcomes Anne Solomon from The Citizens Council for the Arts. The council is a non-profit corporation formed to encourage and promote the arts. More importantly, it has a legacy of maintaining a festival of the highest reputation and quality. This achievement is a credit to our community. Moreover, this incredible work is a testament to the Council and its volunteers, as well as the participating artists who attend.
So, plan to join Anne, this Friday, for an overview of the history and accomplishments stemming from this celebration of art, creativity and friendship in our community.
Art on the Green
Art on the Green offers a market for arts and craft sellers as well as performance spaces featuring free, live music and entertainment. Consequently, the weekend event is a favorite activity for friends and family as well as the many out of town visitors who attend. For those who are familiar with Art on the Green, you know that this yearly event is a highlight of summer in Coeur d’Alene. Not only does the event feature over 190 artists, it also includes an extensive variety of musicians & performers. This free entertainment throughout the festival is a crowd favorite.
The numerous vendors at Art on the Green offer handcrafted works of glass, clay, leather, wood, metal and fiber. In addition, there are works of photography and original paintings along with other specialized artisanal goods. The event also features a hands-on-art area for children. This special program gives kids access to free materials and instruction. This kids only venue encourages them to create their own original artwork.
As you would expect, the event also features an extensive food selection including old favorites and some new additions. The food booths are managed by a wonderfully dedicated staff of volunteers. Furthermore, the proceeds from the food and beverage sales help fund the free entertainment offered at the event.
