This Friday, the Democratic Club welcomes Kaylee Kosareff. Kaylee is an Idaho native and a graduate of Coeur d’Alene High School and the University of Idaho. Her life and experience since graduating have given her a unique perspective on global issues. Kaylee served as an International Trade Assistant for the US Embassy in London and worked as a Gender Based Violence consultant for the International Organization for Migration (IOM). She will share some stories and thoughts on lessons learned from her experience. Join us this Friday, at the Iron Horse Bar and Grill, to learn what she has to say.
US Embassies
US embassies are an aspect of the US Department of State. The mission of the state department is wide reaching. It includes shaping and sustaining a peaceful, prosperous, just, and democratic world. It also seeks to foster stable conditions for the prosperity of US citizens and people around the globe. A US embassy typically includes an ambassador who is appointed by the President and their staff. These individuals represent and advance the interests of the US around the globe. They specifically represent US interests within the country in which they are delegated.
International Organization for Migration
The United Nation’s International Organization for Migration (IOM) provides services and advice concerning migration to governments and migrants. Their work includes support for internally displaced persons, refugees, and migrant workers. The organization originated as an outgrowth of the need to resettle people displaced by World War II. It consists of 166 member-states and an additional 8 states holding observer status. Its mission is “to promote humane and orderly migration by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.”
