Dem Club: Katherine Aiken–Idaho’s Bunker Hill

Idaho's Bunker HillThis Friday, the Democratic Club welcomes​ Dr. Katherine Aiken. She will speak about the history of the Bunker Hill Mine in Kellogg, Idaho. Dr. Aiken is an Emeritus Professor of History at University of Idaho​. In 2005, Dr. Aiken wrote a book called “Idaho’s Bunker Hill: The Rise and Fall of a Great Mining Company,1885-1981”. Throughout her book, she details the hardships miners faced, their connection to the community, and the circumstances that made Idaho’s Bunker Hill Mine the commercial success that it was.

Dr. Aiken is a 20th century U.S. historian with an emphasis in social and cultural history, women and labor. As a historian, she is the author of three books and is an active speaker who is well known and often invited to speak throughout the Pacific Northwest. She currently holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Washington. She also attended the University of Oregon for her Masters in History and University of Idaho for her Bachelors in History.
