We Will Always Do the Right Thing by the American People.
Let’s Talk Money
Money is the green stuff that keeps our world turning around and keeps our Central Committee afloat. In fact, small dollar monthly donations form the basis of the Kootenai County Democratic Central Committee’s annual income. Currently, we need to raise $35,000 to fund our 2023 budget.
Ideally, if every one of us, all 20,000 Democrats in Kootenai County, donates $2 we will easily surpass this goal. However, we all know that will not happen. So please, before you finish your coffee today, go to Act Blue, and set up a monthly donation in the amount that you can afford. Or, if you prefer, simply write checks to the KCDCC on a regular and repeating basis. We really depend on it. Thank you in advance.

Second, mark your calendar and plan to vote in the March 14 Levy Election. Post Falls, Lakeland, and Coeur d’Alene School Districts are all seeking your support to fill gaps in their school budgets.
Ensure Your Taxes Fund Public Education
Last year, Reclaim Idaho qualified a ballot initiative that, if approved, would have mandated that the state spend $410 million on public education. Knowing voters would pass the referendum and wanting to avoid the mandate, the Legislature proactively appropriated a similar amount with a few caveats. Consequently, they now have greater control over where the money comes from and how to spend it. Yet, the fact remains that voters support public education. Moreover, they know that the alternatives (private and charter schools as well as home schooling) will never satisfactorily replace neighborhood public schools.
To keep the legislature focused on your priorities, plan now to make your voices heard. Please let your legislators know that this money needs to fund public schools, not prop up the alternatives. Remind them that this is taxpayer money. Take Action.
The Contrast is Revealing
We all know about Kevin McCarthy’s humiliating path to the Speakership of the US House of Representatives and what an appalling leader he will be. With that in mind, I want to direct you to Representative Hakeem Jeffries’ “Alphabet Speech”. This is the speech he gave in the early morning hours of January 7 after accepting his new role as House Minority Leader. It is a stemwinder. His eloquence and biting wit were on full display. We are fortunate to have such a skilled orator and leader, prepared to fill Nancy Pelosi’s shoes, representing Democrats in Washington.
