Last week, I teed up the fact that an Idaho Democrat was preparing to announce plans to take on Raúl Labrador in the race for State Attorney General. On Tuesday, July 26, Boise attorney Tom Arkoosh made these plans public. As you might suspect there is a world of difference between these candidates. On behalf of the Kootenai County Democratic Central Committee, I say “Welcome Aboard Tom!” We look forward to hosting Tom at one or more of our events during the campaign season. You can be sure that we will support him in every way possible.
About Tom Arkoosh
Tom is a born and bred Idahoan with decades of experience as a practicing attorney. He has built a long and distinguished career that includes work in civil, commercial, criminal, natural resources, water, and administrative law. He is running to keep politics out of the Attorney General’s Office.
Labrador is UnFIT for ATTORNEY GENERAL
In comparison, Labrador’s legal credentials are thin. He practiced Immigration law for nine years until his election to the Idaho House of Representatives where he served two terms (2006-2010). He is primarily known for serving four terms in the US congress (2011-2018). The Tea Party Movement helped to sweep him into office.
During his tenure in DC, he voted to repeal the Affordable Healthcare Act. Speaking in defense of the vote at Lewis-Clark State College, Labrador revealed his blatant ignorance of the issue by stating that “Nobody dies because they don’t have access to healthcare.” His remark confirmed his callousness toward the health and welfare concerns of struggling Idahoan’s. In 2017, Labrador also voted on a bill to restrict access to legal abortion. These votes are evidence that Labrador is out of step with the majority opinion on healthcare among other issues.
To make matters worse, if elected, you can expect him to work in concert with the most extreme elements of the Idaho GOP. In other words, rather than serving as a neutral arbitrator for the people of Idaho, he will be serving as the enforcer for the GOP’s tyrannical and repressive agenda.
Join Us Friday at the Roosevelt Hotel
This Friday, July 29 is the date of the BLUE ‘22 BBQ. This summer gathering is an effort to build our political community and raise awareness about local and state campaign efforts. Our featured guests include local candidates Larry Bieber, Teresa Borrenpohl, and Ruben Miranda. IDP Chair Lauren Necochea, Lt. Governor Candidate Terri Pickens Manweiler, and US House of Representatives Candidate Kaylee Peterson will also be in attendance. Be there or be square. It will be so nice to see you.
Meet Our New Field Organizer
The Kootenai County Democrats welcome Donovan Clymer to the team. Donovan comes to us from Michigan where he recently graduated with a degree in political science. Despite his youth, he has previous campaign experience and is already hard at work. So, expect to hear from him. When he reaches out to you for help with our 2022 campaign, please find a way to say YES.

Also, I would like to thank Mirna Pleins for finding housing for Donovan and Matt Brawner for providing office space.
Thanks everyone. I will see you at the BBQ.
