BE OF GOOD CHEER
I am writing to you from sunny Arizona where the Association of State Democratic Parties is holding its Winter Meeting. Winter is a relative term here.
Today the conversations are all about the recent past, with realizations that can be painful but are necessary if we want to move forward.
TAKE AWAYS
- We needed an earlier start, and we needed sustained contact with voters with a repeating message of our values and accomplishments.
- Social messaging around reproductive health was important but we underestimated the need to address the economic hardship people were experiencing.
- GOP grass roots organizers listened to Black voters, rather than telling them what the issues were.
- The quickness of our messaging must increase so that we can respond faster.
- We must find or create influencers who can advance our message over social media.
It is important to remember that all was not lost. We contributed to securing a majority on the North Idaho College Board of Trustees. This is no small victory. Rather, it is a testament to the grassroots work that we and others did to protect quality education.
It reflects the shared understanding that NIC and similar institutions, like the Community Library Network, are vital to our region’s future. Our economy, our culture, and our social fabric relies on them.
Taking our shared values and translating them into collective action will be our work going forward.
UNWIND AND RECONNECT
So, let us take a moment (or a month) during the Holidays to recharge and prepare for 2025. The Holiday Party is December 12th, get your ticket now, before it is too late. Space is limited. Reserve Your Tickets Here
When we reconvene in January, let us commit to learning the lessons of the last election and moving on. Kootenai County needs Democrats if it wants a future of hope, fair-mindedness, honesty, and prosperity.
Thank you to all the candidates, volunteers, and voters. Happy Holidays.
