Reality Check

If you are tired of consuming a continuous stream of content about Joe Biden’s age and “unpopularity” or how all the court rulings seem to give Trump momentum, then consider reading a refreshing, objective, and optimistic view of the election offered in the Hopium Chronicles. It is written by Simon Rosenberg, a political consultant who has worked for the Democratic National Committee among other liberal groups. You can find his work on Substack, a platform where you can subscribe to read published content from writers and creators.

For a taste of what you can expect, here is Rosenberg’s take on the current state of the presidential race. I suggest you read it. I think you will find it far more insightful than any newspaper poll or media post about “voter sentiment.”

Don’t get me wrong, the race will be close. Consequently, you can’t sit back and just wait for November to roll around. So, stay informed and involved, and make sure you’re registered to vote.

Idaho State Primary Election

Regarding voting, plan to vote in the May 21st Idaho State Primary. The primary covers all relevant ballot positions and issue items other than US President. You can find current voter information on the Idaho Democratic Party website.

Idaho Democratic Presidential Caucus

To vote for the Democratic Presidential candidate, be sure to cast a ballot in the May 23rd Democratic Presidential Caucus. Here is a link to information on the Idaho Democrat’s 2024 Presidential Nominating Process. The IDP is trying to keep this simple and helpful to voters.

The Hayden Public Library is the designated caucus location for Kootenai County. You can either attend in person or vote absentee. To vote absentee, you must request an absentee ballot. Ballots will begin to be sent to voters on May 5, 2024, and must be returned to the state party by May 23 at 8pm. The final date to request an absentee ballot is May 16, 5pm MT. Otherwise, if you are able, you can register and vote at the caucus. Remember, you must be registered as a Democrat or Unaffiliated to participate.

If you are interested, you can also sign up to be a delegate to the Idaho State Democratic Convention. It takes place on June 22-24 in Moscow. We are fortunate that the party is willing to host the convention in the panhandle. Hopefully lots of Kootenai County Democrats will make the effort to attend this 3-day event. You can either attend as a voting delegate or simply lend your support to our party as a non-voting member. Here is a link to information about being a state delegate. I will have more to report on the State Convention in the coming weeks.

Attention Precinct Captains

And finally, as a reminder to all precinct captains, March 15th is the filing deadline to run as a candidate for your precinct position. So please go to the County Elections Office on 3rd Street to complete your candidate paperwork.

Have a terrific week.
