Summer Break

This summer season offers a short (and I do mean short) lull in the political schedule. The fact is that in only 18 weeks, we will be facing another General Election. Because this election centers primarily on local positions, the candidates for these races may not even declare their intentions until September.
One notable exception is the first congressional district race that is already under way. Idaho Dem Kaylee Peterson is campaigning to challenge Russ Fulcher for Idaho’s First Congressional District. Watch for opportunities to meet with her over the summer and support her efforts to replace Fulcher.
Opportunity Knocks
Given its slower political pace, summer offers a fantastic opportunity for all precinct captains to build our Democratic voter base. Therefore, I encourage each member of our Central Committee to spend one hour each week calling Likely Dems within your district. If you each set a goal of recruiting ten new Democrats per week, it would make considerable progress toward increasing our base of support.
In the 18 weeks between now and November, sixty precinct captains making regular calls, could generate 180 new Democrats, and could yield us 10,800 reliable votes in November. With a strong turnout on our part, this increase in support would garner more than enough votes to sway a Kootenai County or Coeur d’Alene election. Ultimately, this increase in Democratic turnout could be the difference in saving a school board or a city council from the destructive impulses of a radical GOP “vetted” candidate. Working together, we can do it.
Summer Fun
July 4th is the start of parade season and once again the Kootenai Democrats will be turning out to represent our party in the parade procession. In addition to our miniature donkeys and our sporty blue Mercedes, First Congressional District Candidate Kaylee Peterson will be joining us in Coeur d’Alene for our march down Sherman Avenue. I invite you to show your support by marching with us. If you are interested in marching with us in the Independence Day Parade, fill out our Registration Page so we can stay connected regarding meeting times, locations, and further details.
Also, please set aside the evening of July 29th for our Big Blue Huckleberry BBQ. Dan Studer and his committee have an incredibly special event planned. It takes place at The Estate at Elk Point. This special venue overlooks the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Course with stunning views of Tubbs Hill and our beloved lake. There will be live music and tasty food, along with excellent presenters and an auction of extraordinary items. You will not want to miss this one.
