First Things First
Congratulations! We turned out enough voters to pass the Supplemental School Levy Elections in the Kootenai, Coeur d’Alene, and Lakeland School Districts. How about that. Let’s give a big pat on the back to Shari Williams and her helper Paula Marano for spearheading the Get Out the Vote text bank that helped make these wins possible. Unfortunately, we have work to do in Post Falls, but we were close. Their levy election only failed to pass by 40 votes.
COVID Relief
The U.S. House of Representatives just approved the revised American Rescue Plan and President Biden said he will sign the legislation as soon as it hits his desk. This stimulus package is big and promises significant relief to those whose lives have been seriously set back by this crisis. Here are some facts and figures about the effects of this legislation.
- The poorest 20% are expected to receive a 20% income boost (Senator Schumer).
- Our economy is predicted to grow an astonishing 6% in the third and fourth quarters of 2021 (Axios 3/10/21).
- Seventy-five percent of American’s believe it is needed to counter the pandemic’s negative impact on the economy, including “clear majorities of Republicans.” (Politico 2/6/21)
- Idaho’s entire US Congressional delegation voted no.
As Idahoans, we all know someone who will benefit from a cash bonus, extended jobless benefits, more affordable health insurance, or expanded financial assistance for childcare. Therefore, we cannot permit the GOP to paint this as a “blue state bailout.” So please support President Biden’s first legislative policy victory by sharing these facts and figures with your friends and family. Also, take a minute and tell Jim Risch, Mike Crapo, and Russ Fulcher how you feel about their votes against this critical bill. Passing sweeping legislation, like the American Rescue Plan, is how Democrats begin to build our country back better.
Frank and Bethine Church Gala
The 27th Annual Frank and Bethine Church Gala is this Saturday, March 13. Boise Mayor Lauren McClean, Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs, and Washington Lt. Governor Denny Heck will all be there. The organizers promise much more than a live stream. “You’ll be able to move between tables on a virtual gala floor and meet up with old friends, network via webcam with other attendees one-on-one or in small groups and visit the silent auction.” Tickets range from $12- $1200, and no one must board an airplane to get there.” Make sure to reserve your spot.

New LD3 Chair
Please welcome Teresa Borrenpohl as our new LD3 Chair. Teresa was a District 3 House candidate in 2020. Keep an eye on her, she is a rising star.
Precinct Captains
As always, we need Precinct Captains. As a precinct captain, you help us communicate the values, principles, and policies of the Idaho Democratic Party to the folks in your community. Please volunteer now. It beats the pandemic blues. Contact Paula Neils at 208 763 3361 or Paula Marano at 208 664 3676. Leave a message if they do not answer. They will call you right back.
In Other News
There is still time to Tell Governor Little to VETO SB 1110, the heinous bill that would make it all but impossible to qualify a citizen initiative for the Idaho ballot. It only takes a minute or two.
And finally
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I hope you have a great week and thanks for your continued support of the KCDCC.
